Objective: To conduct a multi-faceted analysis of the honey market in Poland within the context of functioning as part of the European Union. The analysis aims to identify key political, economic, social, technological, legal, and environmental determinants.
Research Design & Methods: The study employs the PESTLE method as an analytical tool to identify the factors influencing the beekeeping sector systematically. The analysis incorporates market reports, academic literature, and documents from both the EU and Poland.
Findings: The analysis revealed that the honey sector in Poland operates within an environment of significant export potential. It is influenced, among others, by the Common Agricultural Policy, climate, growing consumer expectations regarding product quality and origin, and the development of beekeeping technologies. Structural barriers and legislative constraints were also identified.
Implications / Recommendations: The results of the analysis suggest the need to strengthen the role of producer organisations, implement innovative technologies in apiaries, and increase the sector’s integration with the EU’s pro-environmental policies. The article highlights the low level of consumer education and promotion of honey as a high-value-added product.
Contribution: The article offers practical conclusions for policymakers, industry organisations, and honey producers, pointing to potential development directions for the sector in the context of a sustainable agri-food economy.
